Após doze anos jogando seu MMORPG favorito, Momonga faz login pela última vez e se vê transportado para o mundo do jogo, onde ele é obrigado a jogá-lo indefinidamente. Ao longo de suas aventuras, seu avatar ascende ao título de Rei Feiticeiro Ainz Ooal Gown. Anteriormente próspero, mas agora à beira da ruína, o Reino Sagrado desfrutou de anos de paz após a construção de uma enorme muralha que os protegia de invasões vizinhas. No entanto, um dia isso chega ao fim quando o Imperador Demônio Jaldabaoth chega com um exército de meio-humanos do mal. Temendo a invasão de suas próprias terras, o território vizinho da Teocracia Slane é forçado a implorar aos seus inimigos no Reino Feiticeiro por ajuda. Atendendo ao chamado, Momonga, agora conhecido como Rei Feiticeiro Ainz Ooal Gown, reúne o Reino Feiticeiro e seu exército de mortos-vivos para se juntar à luta ao lado do Reino Sagrado e da Teocracia Slane na esperança de derrotar o Imperador Demônio!
