Fred é um publicitário bem-sucedido, que tem vergonha de apresentar as namoradas para sua excêntrica família italiana. Ele conhece Denise a mulher de seus sonhos, mas ela só aceita ser pedida em casamento depois de conhecer sua família. Colocado contra a parede, Fred marca um encontro no set do comercial de margarina que está trabalhando, mas Denise confunde os atores pela família de Fred – e se encanta por eles. Sem saída, Fred contrata os atores para representarem sua família, mas o que ele não esperava é que a “família perfeita” fosse ainda mais “imperfeita” do que a sua.
