Em meados do século XVIII, na França, o renomado General Jarjayes recebe a notícia que será pai da sexta filha. Aflito por não conseguir ter um filho para manter o nome e o prestígio da família, decide criá-la como menino, visto que nesse período somente homens podiam suceder o cargo. Lady Oscar frequenta o colégio militar onde destaca-se, alcançando o título de capitã da Guarda Real. Como seu cargo é de confiança, fica sob sua responsabilidade zelar pela proteção da Rainha Maria Antonieta. Após o tratado de paz entre a Áustria e a França, quando Maria Antonieta se casa com o príncipe Luís XVI. Oscar passa a maior parte do tempo no Palácio de Versalhes. Ela acompanha de perto com André, seu melhor amigo (que é apaixonado secretamente por ela), o cinismo, as festas luxuosas e o estilo de vida da Corte Real.
