O texto fora escrito por Mapurunga Filho em redondilhas (versos de sete sílabas), ao estilo dos cordelistas nordestinos e inspirado no teatro que Gil Vicente desenvolveu em Portugal durante o século 16. O título do filme, no entanto, é uma referência ao mesmo tempo humorística e terna às 60 mil meninas que, entre 1996 e 1997, foram batizadas de Leidiana no Ceará, em homenagem à princesa inglesa Diana. Num Ceará cheio de flores e cores das montanhas de Guaramiranga, inteiramente avesso às tradicionais imagens desoladoras da seca, desenvolve-se essa versão cordelesca de "Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos".
