A narrativa acompanha dois amigos, o poeta Levi e Elias, que se conhecem desde a infância, mas acabam se separando por 17 anos, quando primeiro resolve ir embora da pequena cidade conservadora onde moram para viver uma vida mais livre num grande centro urbano. A ideia era fugirem juntos, mas seu amigo acabou desistindo. Eles irão se encontrar apenas quando Levi volta à cidade para o velório de seu amigo.
