Cristina zanga-se com o namorado, Miguel, depois de uma discussão em que o humanismo da rapariga entrou em confronto com o neo-liberalismo do rapaz. Danada, sai do carro dele em Santa Apolónia e, enquanto espera pela boleia de Joana, a sua companheira de apartamento na Avenida de Madrid, trava conhecimento com António, um sem-abrigo. Num impulso, decide convidá-lo a ir até sua casa. Pretende com isso vingar-se de Miguel e contribuir à sua maneira para a resolução de um problema social que a aflige. Mas, adiante-se, também não esconde a atracção que António exerce sobre ela. Amigos e família ficam em choque. Pela parte que lhe toca, António não se adapta à vida em casa de Cristina nem à situação de animal de estimação, e cria conflitos e confusões em série
