Um texano vai até o Wyoming na esperança de conseguir trabalho em perfuração de petróleo, mas não consegue o emprego. No entanto é confundido com um assassino profissional, que tinha sido contratado para matar uma esposa infiel. Ele se aproveita da situação e pega 5 mil dólares como adiantamento, mas em vez de executar o serviço conta tudo para sua possível vítima, que lhe oferece o dobro para matar o marido. Com vários milhares de dólares, ele decide sair da cidade, mas um imprevisto vai fazê-lo retornar.
