Na Barriga de um Tigre acompanha Bhagole e Prabhata, um casal de agricultores sem-terra, retornam ao vilarejo após tentativas frustradas de encontrar trabalho na cidade. Lá, enfrentam o caos causado pela morte de um camponês, supostamente atacado por um tigre, mas cercada de suspeitas de suicídio. Desesperados por uma fonte de renda, tentam trabalhar em uma fábrica de tijolos, mas são rejeitados pela idade. Seu filho, Saharsh, consegue o emprego, mas precisa produzir mil tijolos por dia. Após um incidente ameaçar a estabilidade familiar, Bhagole decide sacrificar-se ao tigre para garantir o futuro da família. Prabhata, sua esposa, une-se a ele nessa decisão, e juntos passam uma última noite surreal na floresta, relembrando suas vidas antes do sacrifício final.
