Ashlyn é coagida por sua madrasta, Miriam, a se juntar à família em uma viagem ao Caribe como parte de um casamento. Miriam é a futura noiva e, embora Ashlyn já esteja sozinha há algum tempo, trabalhando e estudando para se tornar professora, sua família adotiva rapidamente cai nos velhos padrões de desvalorizar Ashlyn, colocá-la para baixo e esperar que ela faça tudo. Para dificultar ainda mais as coisas, o noivo de Miriam, Bruce, é um homem maravilhoso que não se importa com os modos de Miriam. Ashlyn encontra amizade e o início do amor com o filho de Bruce, Noah. Mas Ashlyn luta para ter seu próprio "felizes para sempre" quando sabe que sua família adotiva está disposta a arruinar Bruce.
