Keats (Damon Wayans) é um policial que tem a missão de investigar o chefão do crime Frank Colton (James Caan). Ele se passa por bandido e faz amizade com um dos subordinados de Colton, o traficante e ladrão de carros Archie Moses (Adam Sandler). É claro que a parceria dos dois termina quando a identidade do policial é revelada. Anos mais tarde, os ex-amigos terão de aturar um ao outro novamente. Isso acontece quando Keats é escalado para escoltar Archie, que agora faz parte do programa de proteção à testemunha.
