Django (Franco Nero) é um homem que arrasta consigo um caixão, onde dentro está escondida uma poderosa metralhadora. Na fronteira do México, ele está disposto a vingar a morte da sua esposa, e parte para uma luta sangrenta contra duas gangues rivais que agem na região, isso depois de fazer um acordo com o bandido local Hugo Rodriguez (José Bódalo). Só que desconfiado das intenções de Rodriguez, ele resolve se juntar a Maria, uma mulher que havia salvo, e os dois serão perseguidos pelo mexicano.
