Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs), J.D. McNugent (Jack Black) e Wayne Lessefier (Steve Zahn) são grande amigos desde a infância tendo atravessado juntos as fases de suas vidas, desde a passagem pela equipe de futebol do colégio até a formação de uma banda que toca covers de Neil Diamond. Porém, quando Judith (Amanda Peet) surge em suas vidas, tudo muda. Silverman logo começa a namorá-la e aos poucos se afasta dos amigos e a da banda. Certos de que Judith não é a garota ideal para Darren e dispostos a afastá-lo dela, eles resolvem reunir Darren com seu grande amor de infância, Sandy (Amanda Detmer), que está em vias de se tornar uma freira. E, para completar o plano, eles resolvem sequestrar Judith e forjar sua própria morte, a fim de que Darren e Sandy possam se aproximar ainda mais.
