O primo Eddie Johnson (Randy Quaid) é despedido do trabalho em um centro de pesquisa nuclear às vésperas do Natal. Mas quando um macaco do laboratório morde o pobre Eddie, seu futuro ex-patrão envia toda a família de Eddie de férias para o Sul do Pacífico na esperança de que Eddie não o processe.
