Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) é um ambicioso funcionário junior que não vê a hora de subir de posição dentro da empresa em que trabalha, a gigantesca Wyatt Corporation. Entretanto, após cometer um erro que custou bastante caro à empresa, Adam entra na lista negra de Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman), o CEO da corporação. Para compensar o problema causado, Nicholas chantageia Adam de forma que ele seja empregado na maior concorrente da empresa, comandada por Jock Hoddard (Harrison Ford), o antigo mentor de Wyatt. A tarefa de Adam é que ele seja um espião dentro da empresa de Hoddard, passando a Wyatt todas as informações internas que julgue interessantes. Sem saída, Adam aceita a tarefa.
