Claire Kubik é uma promotora de sucesso que tem um casamento feliz com Tom Chapman, até que é surpreendida com a revelação de que seu marido tem um passado escondido como integrante do exército norte-americano. Tom é acusado de ter participado em um massacre em El Salvador, sendo preso por esta acusação até que seu julgamento na corte militar ocorra.
