O Xerife de Nottingham planeja confiscar a propriedade do Senhor de Bawtry, um nobre que morreu na Cruzada. O Arcebispo de Canterbury, Hubert Walter, é contra este plano e o xerife planeja eliminá-lo. Robin Hood é convidado a realizar o assassinato do arcebispo para os conspiradores, liderados pelo Conde de Newark e Lord Melton, mas, ao perceber quem é o alvo pretendido, resolve ajudar o Arcebispo. Lady Marian também quer conhecer o Arcebispo para que ela possa conceder liberdade à família de um homem assassinado pelos homens do Xerife e ela também está ansiosa para encontrar Robin novamente, pois o conheceu quando achava que ele era um fora da lei comum, mas agora percebe que ele está do lado do bem.
