Uma inglesa, Julie Mile, mora no México D.F. com o marido Antonio e sua filha de 4 meses. Um dia, sua vida pacífica muda para pior quando Antonio é acusado de um crime político que não cometeu e está preso em uma prisão clandestina. A evidência falsa para incrimina-lo será uma nota promissória usada para pagar a primeira parcela do seu apartamento recém-adquirido. Julie e o bebê serão ilegalmente retidos pela autoridade, mas Antonio escapa para Londres, pensando que eles estão seguros na embaixada britânica.
