A história de O Natal do Menino Imperador traz D. Pedro II (Sérgio Britto) aos 65 anos, em seu exílio em Paris – ele fora deposto em 1889 –, contando ao neto Antônio (Rafael Miguel), na noite de Natal, uma das passagens mais marcantes de sua vida. Quando tinha 9 anos de idade, em 1834, ele já era órfão de pai e mãe e ostentava o título de Imperador Constitucional e Defensor Perpétuo do Brasil. Aquele foi o primeiro Natal que passou sem seu pai, que morrera semanas antes em Portugal.
