Duas jovens, Lisa (Tammy Lauren) e Kim (Shawnee Smith), vão passar a noite sozinhas, numa casa de fazenda isolada. Para quebrar o tédio que o lugar provoca, Lisa resolve se divertir aterrorizando pessoas com trotes telefônicos. Quem atende suas chamadas ouve um aviso ameaçador: “Eu vi o que você fez, e eu sei quem você é”…a brincadeira rende boas gargalhadas para as amigas. Até que uma coincidência inesperada muda o rumo dos acontecimentos. Uma de suas “vítimas” telefônicas é Adrian Lancer (Robert Carradine), um jovem e pertubado diretor de cinema. Ele havia acabado de assassinar brutalmente sua noiva. Intrigadas e atraídas pela aparente frieza de Adrian, as garotas continuam a ligar. Ameaçado, Adrian decide ir ao encontro das misteriosas testemunhas. Enquanto isso as duas continuam se divertindo, sem ter idéia do terrível perigo que se aproxima.
