Baseado no caso de Sada Abe, que em 17 de maio de 1936 matou e castrou seu amante. Esses eventos ocorreram durante um período de guerra, depressão econômica, inquietação pública e crescente militarismo, uma época de agitação e confusão em que a opinião pública era, na melhor das hipóteses, imprevisível. Sada, condenada pela lei, viu-se celebrizada pela imprensa e aclamada como uma "santa" do amor. Por ter cometido um crime passional, a pureza de sua motivação a elevou da condição de criminosa à de heroína popular.
