Uma dramática recriação da missão espacial da NASA em abril de 1970, quando a agência enfrentou uma das maiores crises de sua história. Apenas nove meses após o histórico pouso de Neil Armstrong na Lua, três astronautas, a bordo da Apollo 13, ficaram presos no espaço após uma explosão danificar sua espaçonave, impedindo o pouso lunar. O filme retrata a angustiante luta pela sobrevivência dos astronautas Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert e Fred Haise, que enfrentaram desafios extremos em um ambiente hostil e sem garantia de retorno. Paralelamente, a equipe da NASA, liderada pelo diretor de voo Gene Kranz, trabalhou incessantemente em Houston, improvisando soluções e superando limites para trazer os astronautas de volta à Terra com segurança. O sucesso dessa missão, apesar das adversidades, é lembrado como um dos momentos mais brilhantes da história da exploração espacial.
