Documentário com cenas de dramaturgia sobre o escritor Rubem Braga, o maior cronista do Brasil. Através das crônicas do escritor registra-se sua rica trajetória de vida, em cronologia inversa: da morte, no Rio em 1991 até a publicação da 1ª crônica aos 13 anos. Três atores representam Rubem da velhice à juventude revendo, pela janela da fazenda de sua infância no Espírito Santo, sua vida boêmia com intelectuais, sua carreira jornalística nos principais jornais do país e o início como correspondente de guerra. Uma animação ilustra uma crônica infantil do autor. Música de Dorival Caymmi gravada em ritmo de fado relembra a origem portuguesa do escritor.
