É o primeiro filme produzido no extinto ICA (Instituto Central de Artes), numa co-produção da UnB (Universidade de Brasília) e do também extinto INC (Instituto Nacional de Cinema). Realizado na Festa do Culto ao Mito do Divino Espírito Santo em Pirenópolis, estado de Goiás, no ano de 1968 foi concluído em 1969, no Rio de Janeiro. O filme é de extrema importância para a memória da cultura popular brasileira e do estado do Goiás, pois é uma obra de arte sobre esta festa popular, e não apenas um registro documental, pois reflete seu caráter cultural. Hoje a festa é considerada Patrimônio Cultural do Brasil pelo IPHAN.
