Filho de um lendário comentarista esportivo, Kernan encontra uma oportunidade na carreira quando, por sorte do destino, salva um sem-teto e acredita que ele seja Bob Satterfield, uma lenda do boxe que todos apostavam estar morto. Assim, surge para o jovem e ambicioso repórter uma grande matéria, resgatando a história do campeão. À medida que o tempo passa, o jornalista faz amizade com Satterfiled e passa a conhecê-lo cada vez melhor. Paralelamente, Erick toma uma maior consciência de sua própria vida e de seu relacionamento com o filho e a ex-mulher, por quem continua alimentando um grande amor.
