Inspirado no musical de mesmo nome, o livro conta a história de Ro, uma menina que, após sofrer um naufrágio quando bebê, é criada por animais de uma ilha tropical. Sem ter lembranças de sua vida antes do acidente, ela passa os dias rodeada por música e amigos fiéis: o panda vermelho Sagi, o pavão Azul e a elefante-bebê Tika. Um dia, atraca na ilha o navio de um charmoso príncipe, que convence Ro a deixar a ilha para descobrir a verdade sobre seu passado e identidade. A garota e seus amigos animais partem então para o início de uma grande aventura. Uma história mágica de final surpreendente, que mostra como o amor é capaz de superar a ambição, a inveja e a traição.
