Harry Quartermain (George Montgomery) é o filho do homem que primeiro partiu na tentativa de achar as riquezas do rei Salomão. Ele está determinado em obter sucesso, onde seu pai fracassou. Harry vai para a África com seu amigo Rick Cobb (David Farrar) e, durante a jornada, Erica Neuler (Taina Elg) passa a acompanhá-los. Ela é a filha de um missionário, que foi morto por uma tribo local. O trio luta contra serpentes mortais, crocodilos e outros perigos da selva, no entanto Harry não consegue esconder seu antagonismo em relação a Erica, pois ela é alemã e a mãe de Harry foi morta no mar por alemães durante a 1ª Guerra Mundial. Só a determinação de achar as minas e uma certa ambivalência dos sentimentos de Harry para Erica e vice-versa fazem com que o trio se mantenha unido para tentar seu objetivo.
