Banned (Banido) narra os acontecimentos em torno do filme Joe Bullet (África do Sul, 1973, dirigido por Louis de Witt), o primeiro filme com um elenco totalmente composto por pessoas africanas negras. O filme estreou de forma independente no Eyethu Cinema, em Soweto (África do Sul), mas logo em seguida foi banido pelo governo do apartheid e nunca mais foi exibido novamente. O documentário Banned tem a participação de Abigail Kuheka e Sol Rachilo, membros do elenco original do filme, e do produtor Tony Van Der Merwe. As vozes de Dra. Gcina Mhlophe, Dr. Mbongeni Ngema, Dr. Kgotso Nkhatho e do cineasta banido Kevin Harris narram as atrocidades da censura no ápice do apartheid na África do Sul.
