Durante o Império Romano, Timo é um jovem órfão adotado pelo general Chirone e criado dentro da grande Academia de Gladiadores de Roma. A intenção de Chirone é transformar o garoto em um dos maiores gladiadores do país, mas Timo não tem a menor vocação para esta atividade. Ele deseja apenas se divertir com os amigos Mauritius e Ciccius. A situação muda quando Timo se apaixona por Lucille, e decide impressioná-la. É a hora de levar os treinos a sério e revelar o talento que nem Timo sabia que poderia ter.
