Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman) é uma jovem orfã de mãe (Carla Gugino), que se suicidou quando ela era pequena. De uma hora para outra ela passa a ser atormentada por uma estranha imagem de um menino, que a persegue em pesadelos e também quando está acordada. Determinada a descobrir o que está acontecendo, Casey acaba descobrindo uma misteriosa ligação entre ela e um espírito do mal capaz de possuir o corpo das pessoas para alcançar seu objetivo, que é nascer novamente. Em sua busca pela solução do problema, descobre uma chance através de um ritual de exorcismo com o padre Sendak (Gary Oldman).
