Bem-vindo a cidade de Idlewild, Georgia. Bem-vindo ao clube The Church, onde jogadores se reúnem todas as noites com os amigos de infância - Rooster e Percival, que tomaram diferentes rumos na vida. Ambientado nos anos 30, na época da Lei Seca nos Estados Unidos, o criativo musical Idlewild conta a história de amor e ambição de dois personagens batalhadores de um bar clandestino, através de fantásticos números musicais e seqüências de danças vibrantes. Percival é o tímido pianista e Rooster é o cantor principal e gerente do clube. Juntos, eles tentam se livrar de poderosos gângsters que pretendem receber uma parte dos lucros e dominar o lugar.
