David Farris é um marido e pai atencioso que perde sua esposa em circunstâncias misteriosas. Porém, nos últimos 15 anos, Ellen, sua primeira esposa, luta contra uma doença que interrompeu sua vida e destruiu seu casamento. Sua frustração cresce com a incapacidade dos médicos de descobrir a causa para a sua doença. Quando a nova mulher de seu ex-marido começa a ter os mesmos sintomas e falece, Ellen, com ajuda de detetive, investiga seu ex-marido. Conforme juntam as provas, suspeitam que ele as envenenou.
