Após acidentalmente serem testemunhas de um assassinato da máfia em Chicago, as amigas Connie (Nia Vardalos) e Carla (Toni Collette) fogem rumo a Los Angeles. Lá elas encontram o disfarce ideal: fingem ser drag queens e começam a promover festas. Logo elas se tornam um grande sucesso, sem ninguém desconfiar do disfarce das duas nem que são, na verdade, mulheres. Até que surge Jeff (David Duchovny), que se apaixona por Connie. Connie também está apaixonada por Jeff, mas vive um dilema: caso se revele para ele colocará em risco seu disfarce.
