Do romance de Louis Hemon "M. Ripois and His Nemesis" sobre Andre Ripois, um namorador em busca de amor e riquezas de Paris a Londres. Andre está terminando com sua esposa, Catherine, por causa de suas atenções com sua melhor amiga Patricia. Enquanto Catherine está organizando o divórcio, André, apenas para manter a prática, dá em cima da garota do andar de cima, Diana, e depois volta sua atenção para Patricia, que ele engana para jantar em seu apartamento sob o pretexto de que Catherine estará lá. Quando ele não consegue fazer nenhum progresso com ela por meio de suas táticas usuais, ele tenta despertar sua pena de contar a ela sobre seu passado. Em seus primeiros dias empobrecidos em Londres, ele fez amor com sua chefe Anne, mas sua comida horrível o afastou. Em seguida veio Norah, que ele pegou em um ônibus e levou para seu apartamento e contou a ela sobre sua herança de faz de conta, mas ela insistiu em se casar primeiro, o que não estava em seus planos.
