Melinda (Melora Walters) e Dan (Jay Mohr) formam um casal com sérios problemas matrimoniais. Dan faz uso de Viagra para ter relações com sua esposa, mas não precisa do remédio quando transa com sua amante, uma bela garçonete. O casal acaba procurando o auxílio de dois terapeutas: uma consultora matrimonial, a doutora Emily Page (Lara Flynn Boyle), e um especialista em depressão, o doutor Roger Klink (James Spader), que, por sua vez, envolve-se com Melinda. Quando o casal resolve reaquecer seu casamento, passando uma ardente noite em um motel, o doutor Klink invade o quarto, numa crise de ciúmes. Os papéis se invertem e o casal acaba por agir como conselheiro dos profissionais que deveriam estar lhe ajudando.
