Ellie Parker (Naomi Watts) é uma mulher hiper-atarefada, que vive tentando um papel de atriz em algum longa-metragem. Ela constantemente muda de roupa, maquiagem e personalidade, indo de um lado para outro para participar de entrevistas de elenco. Só que seu namorado Justin (Mark Pellegrino), sua melhor amiga Sam (Rebecca Riggs) e seu novo caso Chris (Scott Coffey) não a apóiam em suas tentativas. Para piorar ainda mais sua situação, seu agente Dennis (Chevy Chase) está prestes a dispensá-la, o que apenas não fez ainda por não saber como lhe dar a notícia.
