Charlie Mackenzie (Tori Spelling) quer manter seu emprego e, para isso, precisa impressionar o novo chefe Edward Walcott (Greg Germann), que acredita que valores familiares devem ser prioridade na vida de todos. Quando Charlie acidentalmente faz o chefe acreditar que ela é casada, Walcott se convida para jantar na casa dela. Desesperada, ela pede emprestada a casa de sua amiga, assim como a filha dela, Nicole (Abigail Breslin), e contrata o ator desempregado, Buck (Jordan Bridges), para interpretar seu marido por uma noite. A situação complica quando seu chefe decide alugar a casa ao lado por todo o verão, forçando Charlie, Nicole e Buck a continuar com a farsa.
