Fortaleza, Ceará. A adolescente Rânia passa seus dias entre a escola municipal, os afazeres domésticos e o trabalho em uma barraca. Seu grande sonho, no entanto, é de se tornar dançarina. Com sua melhor amiga, Zizi, Rânia descobre o Sereia do Norte, regada a festas e orgias, e passa a ganhar dinheiro com a vida noturna. Quando conhece a coreógrafa Estela, a garota tem sua grande chance de enfim se tornar dançarina profissional, mas para tanto precisa enfrentar a intransigência dos pais.
