Bonga e Loló vivem numa caverna junto com três outros vagabundos. Apesar da extrema pobreza, reina um clima de amor, o que atrai as crianças carentes de todos os níveis. Liderados por Bonga, os vagabundos percorrem as ruas da cidade, recolhendo crianças órfãs ou abandonadas por carência material. Para sobreviverem, Bonga e seu grupo cantam e dançam nas calçadas. À beira-mar, meninos ricos são vítimas de outro tipo de abandono: Pedrinho faz parte deste grupo que, por não suportar a solidão imposta pela carência de afeto do pai, foge de casa, perambulando até encontrar Bonga.
