Ao viajar com seu pai, o jovem Alec fica fascinado por um misterioso garanhão árabe que é trazido para bordo e empatado no navio em que ele está navegando. Quando afunda tragicamente, ele e o cavalo sobrevivem apenas para ficarem presos em uma ilha deserta. Ele faz amizade com ele, então quando finalmente resgatados, ambos retornam para sua casa, onde logo encontram Henry Dailey, um treinador que já foi um sucesso. Juntos, eles começam a treinar o cavalo para correr contra os mais rápidos do mundo.
