Como um persistente escritor de roteiros, Mike consegue finalmente ter um trabalho escolhido Como um persistente escritor de roteiros, Mike (David Duchovny) consegue finalmente ter um trabalho escolhido por uma emissora de televisão. Os problemas começam a surgir quando o idealista escritor tem as idéias confrontadas pelos representantes do show bussiness, tendo que enfrentar a impetuosa presidente da emissora, Leny (Sigourney Weaver), que tem que aprovar todas as suas decisões criativas. Quando Mike se dá conta, ele não tem controle nenhum sobre o elenco e a produção, que parecem criar um programa paralelo ao seu projeto, mas que acaba se tornando uma comédia de grande sucesso.
