Duets é um filme de estrada sobre seis indivíduos que cortam os elos com suas vidas predeterminadas e lutam para realizar seus sonhos. A metáfora de tudo isso é o karaokê... a coragem de ficar em pé, lá em cima no palco, cantar e ser livre. Esses seis indivíduos são: uma garçonete (Maria Bello) de Wheeling, West Virginia, desesperada para ir para Califórnia e se tornar uma cantora de sucesso; um ex-presidiário (Andre Braugher) que não tem a menor vontade em obedecer as regras da sociedade e que canta com a voz de um anjo; um vendedor (Paul Giamatti) atrás do sonho americano; um aficcionado por karaokê (Huey Lewis) que não tem nenhuma ligação com ninguém e com nada; uma inocente dançarina de Las Vegas (Gwyneth Paltrow) em busca de família e amor; e um jovem motorista de táxi (Scott Speedman). Cada um deles está buscando um sentido para a sua vida.
