O juiz Foster (Erville Alderson) expulsa sua única filha de casa porque ela se casou com um artista de circo. Pouco antes de sua morte, algum tempo depois, ela deixa sua pequena filha Sally sob os cuidados de McGargle (W.C. Fields), um malabarista trapaceiro de bom coração. Sally (Carol Dempster) cresce no ambiente circense e não tem consciência de sua filiação. McGargle, dando-se conta da responsabilidade em relação à menina, passa a trabalhar em uma caravana itinerante que, eventualmente, chega à cidade onde os Fosters, agora muito ricos, vivem.
