Três condenados escapam e aterrorizam um lar do suburbio. Depois de escapar da prisão, Glenn Griffin, seu irmão Hal e um terceiro detento Sam Kobish escolhem aleatoriamente uma casa em um subúrbio de Indianápolis onde se esconder. A casa pertence à família Hilliard, Dan e Ellie que moram lá com sua filha de 19 anos Cindy e seu filho Ralph. Eles planejam ficar apenas até a meia-noite, enquanto Griffin está esperando por sua namorada, que vai encontrá-los com algum dinheiro que ele escondeu. Quando ela não chega, a estadia deles se estende por vários dias. Dan Hilliard joga seu jogo sabendo que se ele fizer qualquer tentativa de contatar a polícia, sua família pode ser pega no fogo cruzado.
