A história se passa num luxuoso navio, onde uma companhia teatral brasileira, com as cantoras Cléo e Adelaide Chiozzo, retorna ao Brasil depois de apresentações em Buenos Aires. Na embarcação também está um príncipe que se apaixona por Cléo, mas ela só tem olhos para Alberto, o imediato do navio. Frederico, o camareiro de Cléo, embarca clandestinamente no mesmo navio, onde é descoberto por Azulão, o cozinheiro da embarcação. Surge entre os dois homens a relação de amor e ódio, cheia de implicância. A bordo há também um perigoso espião internacional, que precisa ser detido antes que todos cheguem ao Rio de Janeiro.
