Frank O'Brien (Denis Leary) é um ladrão que pretende fazer um último golpe, roubando uma pintura de quatro milhões de dólares. Para acompanhá-lo no roubo, ele leva sua namorada Roz (Sandra Bullock), uma nova-iorquina de descendência judia, cujo sonho é se assentar e ter filhos, por isso ela insiste que este seja o último trabalho ilegal de Frank. Em uma sexta-feira, o roubo é efetuado e como Frank planeja entregar a peça no domingo, transforma o trabalho em um fim de semana de fuga à dois. Para isso, eles invadem uma casa em New England e convencem os vizinhos de que são amigos dos donos. Só que a situação complica quando o chefe do crime para quem Frank trabalha descobre sobre o golpe, um agente do FBI tenta recuperar a pintura e Roz se encanta por um dos moradores da cidade.
