O ano é 1978, e um serial killer está à solta em Los Angeles. Suas vítimas são sempre jovens mulheres, encontradas completamente nuas e brutalmente estranguladas. Na investigação da polícia, surge o primeiro suspeito, o estranho Kenneth Bianchi (Clifton Collins Jr., de Capote). O interrogatório fica por conta da psiquiatra Samantha Stone (Brittany Daniel, de As Branquelas), cujo trabalho é decifrar as motivações do possível assassino. Bianchi logo começa a falar, fazendo uma espécie de jogo psicológico com sua entrevistadora. E samantha embarca então em um apavorante mergulho nesta perturbada mente, tentando descobrir a verdade po trás das supostas mútiplas personalidades de Bianchi. E no meio do caminho, a psiquiatra acaba tendo que reviver cada um destes horríveis crimes, em seus mais tenebrosos detalhes.
