As gêmeas Olanna (Thandie Newton) e Kainene (Anika Noni Rose) são uma exceção na Nigéria, seu país natal, pois cresceram em uma família rica e foram estudar na Inglaterra. Quando retornam, escolhem caminhos muito diferentes.
