Quando um roubo não dá certo, Thomas Taylor (Christian Slater) se entrega e isto dá tempo de seus cúmplices fugirem. Quando se passa um pouco mais de um ano, ele é libertado e vai ao encontro da namorada, Paige (Sara Downing), que está cuidando da filha dele, Megan (Holliston Coleman). Logo Taylor participa, com alguns cúmplices, do roubo de uma casa de apostas. Apesar de terem conseguido roubar quase US$ 2 milhões tudo foi em vão, pois as notas estavam marcadas. Para piorar Taylor fica na mira de Mark Cornell (Val Kilmer), um agente do FBI corrupto que quer forçá-lo a roubar US$ 6 milhões de um cassino de Atlantic City, quando o dinheiro está sendo transportado.
