Patrick Smash (Bruce Cook) sofre de gases crônicos. Seu único amigo é Allan A. Allen (Rupert Grint), um pequeno gênio que também tem uma peculiaridade: ele não possui olfato. Tentando ajudar Patrick, Allan cria diversas invenções que possibilitem que ele leve sua vida de forma normal, sem afetar as pessoas ao lado. Sua mais recente tentativa é a Thuderpants, uma calça capaz de capturar e armazenar todos os gases expelidos por Patrick. A invenção dá tão certo que atrai a atenção da NASA, que convoca a dupla para participar de um projeto.
