O sargento-major Zack Carey (Garner) está muito próximo da aposentadoria servindo em uma base do exército americano em uma pequena cidade sulista. Depois de tomar partido de uma prostituta em uma discussão com um policia, acaba ganhando a antipatia do maníaco serife da cidade (Spraldin), e uma verdeira guerra tem início. Só que o xerife joga sujo e tenta atingir Zack prendendo seu filho, Bily, sob a falsa acusação de posse de drogas. Não é preciso dizer que o bom sargento tentará fazer justiça com as próprias mãos... Jogando um velho tanque de guerra contra quem ficar na sua frente".
